Scenic Drives

Transport will be by mini-bus allowing you both comfort and all round views.

Your tours will include stops at viewpoints to give you the best chance to capture Shetland’s unique landscapes on camera and where possible our wonderful wildlife.

The emphases of these tours are landscapes and scenery; however, where possible we will include other visitor attractions in your tour, i.e. historic sites or museums or arts and crafts.

Where possible we will try to include a café stop at lunchtime but if a packed lunch is required this will be stated in your itinerary. If you wish on your return from the tour you can be dropped off at your accommodation.

From Lerwick we will drive north to the village of Voe then west through Brae to Shetland’s narrowest point at Mavis Grind. The road then takes us north through dramatic scenery past Ronas Hill, Shetland’s highest, then west again along the shores of Shetland’s only fjord.

Continuing west we visit Hillswick where there is a wildlife rescue centre then on to a café with the most amazing view. Tangwick Haa museum gives us fascinating accounts of the history of the area before we reach Stenness and the story of the Haaf fishing. We will get dramatic coastal views, including Shetland’s best known sea stack Dore Holm, as we head west then north to the spectacular volcanic cliffs at Eshaness.

Depart Lerwick 1000 return by 1800.

From Lerwick we drive north then west to take in the magnificent views across the voes of Whiteness and Weisdale. We take a brief stop at Bixter before paying a visit to the ancient and enigmatic Stanydale Temple.

We will stop at Waas (Walls) the historic ‘capital’ of the Westside for lunch where you can visit The Baker's Rest tea-room. A scenic drive trough Watsness and the Dale o Waas takes us to the village of Melby and its harbour giving us the chance to spot seabirds and seals. We will see a miniature Faeroese ‘village’ and then get another opportunity for seal (perhaps otter) spotting before heading back east. Our journey back to Lerwick will take us through the historic valley of Tingwall.

Please note that it is recommended you bring outdoor clothes and footwear.

Depart Lerwick 1000 return by 1800.
